“Sweetly simple, yet achingly sincere, Swardson has mastered the art of tugging at the listener’s heartstrings while maintaining a masculine stride. It’s a tricky balance between soft and hard, sweet and strong, but Swardson seems to walk the line with ease.”
- Andrea Swensson, music critic and rock author
Hearing John Swardson play live is definitely entertaining, but entertainer he is not. If you hope to hear covers of “American Pie” or “Sweet Caroline” you ought look elsewhere. Swardson is a true lyricist with original songs known to reach deep into the soul, delivered with a wry smile and unique brand of classic comfort. He does throw a few covers in here and there. You might be familiar with them if you liked the B sides of old 45’s including “You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me Lucille” and “Pancho & Lefty”.
Light up the grill, throw a case on ice and book Swardson for your next house concert or private event.
“Swardson’s gorgeous, soul-soothing batch of back-parlor picking, devil-may-care ditties, and high lonesome, love-lost-to-the-trail tales...wiht dribbles of Eddie Vedder’s laconic delivery, shooters of Gram Parsons’s ancient soul-wisdom, and the genius-laden, inebriated schoolroom rowdiness of Robert Polard.” - Tom Hallet, Music Critic
